The only one of former Cunard A Class liners to actively participate in the D Day landings was HMS Artifex, seen in this photograph taken on the 26th May 1944 at Portsmouth in her new camouflage scheme. In the foreground of the photograph is a Flamer Class tug discharging ash into a hopper, the next row shows the paddle tug, HMT Grappler, (far right), the Tank Landing Ship LST 302, (second in from right), the Captain Class frigate, HMS Trollope, (centre) and the Captain Class frigate, HMS Lawford, (far left).
